Summer Camp Review at Alamance Community College
Alamance Community College department head, educator, and SOLIDWORKS User Group leader, James Adkins has created a skills-based program for students that leads to jobs in North Carolina’s manufacturing/technology sector. Job opportunities for students are front and center in James’ department.
This summer, James and lead CAD instructor, Ashley Lewis, opened their doors to create summer camps for kids at all age levels.
The youngest new designers used SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids to create models and 3D Print their new creations. Teachers can sign up for SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids classroom for free and share fun STEM based learning projects with their students.
Older students were introduced to the engineering design process with SOLIDWORKS. SOLIDWORKS is used by employers in the areas on Winston-Salem, High Point, and throughout Burlington County, NC where the college serves local industry.
A big focus on summer camp was to teach students that “it’s ok to fail and learn from your mistakes” you can use SOLIDWORKS to recover from design issues and create a better product.
Thank you James and Ashley for inspiring our youngest STEM advocates and sharing your story with the SOLIDWORKS community.
Design well, Marie
