San Diego State University Baja Team Featured at SolidWorks World
If you like to play in the mud and you like engineering components to withstand the harshest conditions, then you will want to talk with the San Diego State University (SDSU) Baja team at SOLIDWORKS WORLD this week. The SDSU Baja team has been using SOLIDWORKS since its inception on campus in 2011.
I got a chance to speak with Jose Gonzalez (all my friends call me Joey), President of the SDSU Baja Team. Joey stated, “We love using SOLIDWORKS because it allows us to manipulate the 3D model in such a way that helps us identify potential problems before we build. We are able to cycle our suspension with ease, check clearances, and mate our different components together.
SOLIDWORKS has also helped us immensely in the design and manufacturing of fixtures to make our build easier. The ability to export DXF files quickly and easily for cutting on our schools waterjet has been a great help. I could go on and on as to how valuable it has been for us to have SOLIDWORKS at our disposal.”
SDSU is a young team trying to make a name in the tough SAE Baja world. What started off as a senior project has transformed into a club over the past year and is getting recognition from the school as a great program for aspiring engineers.
San Diego has some of the biggest and best names in off-road racing, and at SDSU there is no reason SDSU can’t be that name in the SAE Baja world.
According to Joey, their ultimate goal is to win a competition overall but he is quick to thank their main sponsor, The Corky McMillin Companies, as without them and their passion for success, SDSU Baja wouldn’t be where they are at today.
Be certain to say hello to the SDSU Baja team Joe Tralongo, Dylan Delonzor, Mario Gutierrez, Brice Faulwetter, Wyatt Smyers, Max Drew, Drew Dominique, Blake Ramuno, Aaron Leftwick, and Alexandro Martinez (Joey’s brother) and mentor, Max Krommenhoek.
Thank you for bringing your SDSU Baja vehicle to SOLIDWORKS WORLD – we really appreciate that you washed it!
