Sure, there are plenty of free sites, but they have limitations. YouTube has a 10-minute limit, Flickr video is only 90 seconds, and Vimeo (which I prefer) doesn't allow a company like SolidWorks to post content.

Sure, you can always go with your own player and host the video yourself, but that's not as easy for people to find when they're looking on the web. It's a tradeoff.

The best option I've found for posting things like the sessions you find at SolidWorks World is a service called Dailymotion. Many of you are probably familiar with it. Dailymotion, while not as popular as YouTube, is a great service, and allows you to upload clips of any length, so long as they're less than 1GB in size. The biggest caveat is that the folks at Dailymotion like to take a peek at these files before they go live, and they're based in France.

So here we are at the end of day 1, and the video I promised is waiting to get the all clear from the gatekeepers. It's there, ready to go, and as soon as it gets released, it'll show up here. And if that hasn't happened by the time I wake up, well, I may have to break down and chunk things up into 10-minute pieces and throw them up on YouTube for the time being.

So that's what's going on. Thanks for your patience. Now off to bed.

The world of internet video is full of compromises.
