Here's something I got yesterday about our very own Richard Doyle<\/a>. And yes, I'm cribbing most of this from a press release, but it's such awesome news that I wanted to get it out without too much delay (writing blog entries takes time, you know).
<\/o:p><\/p>\n

<\/o:p>\"Richdoyle\"<\/a>
\n The CAD Society has announced that Richard is
\nthe winner of the 2009 CAD Society Joe Greco Community Award, for his
\nachievements in building the SolidWorks<\/a> community throughout the last decade. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

The CAD Society Awards acknowledge the contributions made by
\nindividuals that have affected and developed the CAD, engineering,
\nmanufacturing and architecture software industries. The Joe Greco Community
\naward recognizes outstanding work in improving communication and developing
\ncommunity within the CAD industry, and is awarded in memory of Joe Greco, a
\npast CAD Society president.<\/p>\n

Back
\nin 1999, Richard started a local
\nSolidWorks user group in his home town in Texas. Within 2 years of starting that he
\nhad built a popular user event for SolidWorks users across the entire state,
\nwith over 600 total attendees over the span of 4 years. Since then, and while
\nworking for SolidWorks, he has helped build the SolidWorks User Group Network
\ninto an 8,000-member organization with 150 local groups in 22 countries.<\/p>\n

Richard
\nwas nominated for the award by another SolidWorks User Group leader, Daniel
\nBertschi, who founded the Northeast Ohio SolidWorks User Group. \u201cRichard\u2019s
\nenthusiasm and commitment has made the SolidWorks User Group network what it is
\ntoday. Richard truly cares for the people in the CAD industry, and graciously
\nsets the bar high for others in the CAD community to follow. This award is a
\nwell-deserved recognition of his efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n

They even got Jeff Ray on the phone to talk about Richard. "Richard
\nDoyle's passion for helping CAD users is evident," says Jeff. "For years, Richard has helped
\ndesigners thrive by relying on one another as resources\u2014both in their local
\ncommunities and online. This recognition, and the nomination from one of the
\nSolidWorks User Group leaders, is fitting and well-deserved."<\/p>\n

The awards will be presented at COFES (Congress On the Future
\nof Engineering Software), this year scheduled for April 16-19 2009 in Scottsdale, AZ. Past
\nwinners of this award include: Evan Yares, Sean Dotson, Chris Yessios, Lynn
\nAllen, Randall Rath, CJ Shirk, Kristine Fallon, and Ralph Grabowski.<\/p>\n
