{"id":802,"date":"2009-08-18T10:08:35","date_gmt":"2009-08-18T14:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/example.org\/getting-dropped"},"modified":"2013-08-16T10:36:55","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T14:36:55","slug":"getting-dropped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/solidworksblog\/2009\/08\/getting-dropped.html","title":{"rendered":"Getting dropped"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Preparing to demonstrate a drop test the other day, I was reminded of a useful procedure for creating a suitable mesh and thought you might like to know about it.&#0160; <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Identify the surface that will hit the ground first during the drop test. <\/li>\n<li>Create a static study. <\/li>\n<li>Add a fixed restraint to the surface identified in the first step above. <\/li>\n<li>Apply a reasonable gravity loading (e.g. 10g). <\/li>\n<li>Then run an h-adaptive study with a fine accuracy setting. <\/li>\n<li>Create the drop test study and then drag and drop the mesh from the static study on to it. <\/li>\n<li>Continue with the drop test. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>By using an h-adaptive mesh, you should find the elements are refined in the regions most suitable for the drop test.
