{"id":72,"date":"2013-02-22T15:16:38","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T20:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/example.org\/new-bounding-box-in-solidworks-2013-not-just-for-weldments-"},"modified":"2013-07-22T16:09:04","modified_gmt":"2013-07-22T16:09:04","slug":"new-bounding-box-in-solidworks-2013-not-just-for-weldments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/solidworksblog\/2013\/02\/new-bounding-box-in-solidworks-2013-not-just-for-weldments.html","title":{"rendered":"New \u201cBounding Box\u201d in SolidWorks 2013 (it&#8217;s not just for weldments!)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you attended a \u201cWhat\u2019s New in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/launch\/solidworks-2013-overview.htm?scid=sm_bl_launch13_overview\" target=\"_self\">SolidWorks 2013<\/a>? rollout or even if you were a good user and read the \u201cWhat\u2019s New\u201d guide for 2013, you hopefully saw something about the new automatic<strong> Bounding Box<\/strong> that gets created for plates in Weldments. &#0160;But, if you don\u2019t do weldments you may have also thought, \u201cSo what?\u201d &#0160;Well here is what&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>You can use the new automatic bounding box tool for <em>any<\/em> kind of part!<\/p>\n<p>Say for example you want to find the material needed to machine a part. &#0160;Once you get any SolidWorks part modeled (or imported), use the<strong> INSERT\u2013WELDMENTS\u2013WELDMENT<\/strong> feature to \u201cturn it into a weldment\u201d (even though it really isn\u2019t),&#0160;then Rt+Clk the \u201cCut list\u201d item in the Feature Tree and choose <strong>Update<\/strong>. &#0160;Expand the \u201cCut list\u201d item in the tree, Rt+Clk the \u201cCut-List-Item1? folder that got created, and choose <strong>Create Bounding Box<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/6a00d83451706569e2017d41385e4a970c.png\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CreateBoundingBox\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d83451706569e2017d41385e4a970c\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/2\/6a00d83451706569e2017d41385e4a970c-800wi.png\" title=\"CreateBoundingBox\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you just want to see the 3D bounding box that got created, expand the \u201cCut-List-Item1? folder and <strong>Show<\/strong> the 3D Sketch that was created. &#0160;&#0160;If you don\u2019t like how the bounding box is oriented, no problem.
