But when most of the<br \/>\ncountry was marinating in red ink, eSolar opened a first-of-its-kind solar<br \/>\nplant in California and capped the year with recognition from a top engineering publication and an<br \/>\ninternational economic and social development organization. <em><a href=\"https:\/\/pepei.pennnet.com\/\"><br \/><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 150%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; line-height: 150%;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/pepei.pennnet.com\/\">Power<br \/>\nEngineering<\/a><\/em> magazine named eSolar\u2019s Sierra SunTower facility winner of<br \/>\nthe \u201cBest Renewable and Sustainable Project\u201d and the World Economic Forum \u2013<br \/>\nhost of the prestigious Davos Forum \u2013 named eSolar a 2010 Technology Pioneer. And<br \/>\ncarrying its momentum from 2009 into 2010, eSolar announced that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esolar.com\/news\/press\/2010_01_08\">Chinese company is licensing<br \/>\nits technology<\/a> in a 10-year deal to produce two gigawatts of power. <br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 150%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; line-height: 150%;\">Sierra<br \/>\nSunTower is the kind of solar plant that will pull the industry out of the<br \/>\n\u201cscience project\u201d box. It is a utility-scale thermal power plant that uses<br \/>\narrays of \u201cheliostatic\u201d mirrors to focus sunlight on a collector that pipes<br \/>\nsteam to an electric turbine. eSolar used SolidWorks software to design the<br \/>\nheliostatic mirror arrays. <br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 150%;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; line-height: 150%;\">We wrote about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/sw\/news\/167_7143_ENU_HTML.htm\">eSolar in August<\/a>,<br \/>\nand there are updates about the two awards on the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esolar.com\/news\/release.html\">news release site<\/a>.<span>&#0160; <br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 150%;\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 150%;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 9px;\">Mike McGrail is a writer at public relations firm Beaupre, and spends a lot of time talking to SolidWorks customers.
