A few years ago a prominent industrial designer told me that SOLIDWORKS is to Industrial Design what a chainsaw is to ice sculpting, \u201ceveryone knows that a chainsaw can cut a tree, but very few know that is an effective tool for ice sculpting.” <\/em>This has been true for many years and SOLIDWORKS has been used by industrial designers to design and create some of the most successful products across the globe.<\/p>\n

Jason Pohl, the recognized industrial designer who made a name for himself on the long-running TV series American Chopper,<\/em> has a new role as \u201cIndustrial Design Champion\u201d for SOLIDWORKS. In this new capacity, Pohl\u2019s design process will be recorded for others to see; he\u2019ll create custom parts from the initial concept sketch to 3D sculpting, programming, and machining of the final product\u2014a process that will showcase Pohl\u2019s creativity and the software\u2019s capabilities.<\/p>\n

Jason also designed and created a custom motorcycle for SOLIDWORKS, which now sits in Dassault Systemes\u2019 North American headquarters cafeteria, in Waltham, MA. The motorcycle was completely designed in SOLIDWORKS. Pohl knew he would need a design application that could blend the artistry of chopper design with actual manufacturing techniques and engineering data. \u201cBasically, we had any kind of software available to us, but needed to choose the right package not only to capture our ideas but also support advanced manufacturing processes in our new factory.<\/p>\n

SOLIDWORKS recently added cloud-based 3D Sculptor to its expanding 3D<\/strong>EXPERIENCE WORKS portfolio. It helps industrial designers quickly create complex, organically shaped 3D models. 3D Sculptor offers a variety of specialized functions that let you quickly create highly stylized 3D geometry by letting you push and pull, or sculpt, your geometry to the shape you desire.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Jason aims to inspire the next generation of designers by demonstrating the power of the 3D<\/strong>EXPERIENCE WORKS Portfolio. With educational seminars and user group meetings, Pohl will share his extensive design and manufacturing knowledge through both video and live, in-person demonstrations. Throughout, viewers will become better acquainted with 3D printers, CNC machine manufacturers, hardware companies, and tooling partners.<\/p>\n
