Dino-Might: Meet Adrian

The SOLIDWORKS Magic Wheelchair Build Team is back at it again, creating an epic costume for an epic kiddo: Adrian.

Adrian is a nine-year-old boy from Massachusetts who we are pretty sure will one day be a celebrity. With a thousand-watt smile and the gift of gab, Adrian radiates energy and kindness wherever he goes.

Adrian has Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2. According to the Boston Children’s Hospital, which Adrian frequents, “Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare hereditary genetic condition in which muscles throughout the body are weakened because nerve cells in the spinal cord and brainstem do not work properly.” Adrian is on medication that stops the progression of the disease and helps him gain strength. He goes to physical and occupational therapy every week.

He also is everywhere. Adrian is a beacon of positivity and wants to see and do everything, which he documents on his Instagram account, @rollingwithadrian. Whether he’s trying new restaurants and doing food reviews, pumping up the UMass Amherst hockey team as an official member (courtesy of Team Impact), or being an incredible example and friend to his little brother Mateo, Adrian is always up to something and making it exciting.

Adrian has a wide variety of interests, from the ocean to dinosaurs to sports (his favorite hockey team is the Philadelphia Flyers, where his grandfather played) to outer space to Boston itself. His favorite holiday is Halloween, and this year he’s getting the costume of his dreams.

When Adrian saw what SOLIDWORKS made for our previous Magic Wheelchair costume, a The Voice chair for Savannah, he was inspired. He asked the build team to create the most epic and complicated costume we’ve ever made: a robot that actually transforms into a dinosaur.

This costume is a mechanical engineer’s dream, and the build team is hard at work. Adrian’s costume is set to be revealed in Halloweentown itself, Salem, MA, and then he is going to march in the Salem Haunted Happenings Parade on October 3rd.

What will the final costume look like? Stay tuned to find out!
