Top 5 Breakout Sessions at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2022

One of the reasons I was really excited to takeover our livestream programming here was to explore a ton of different content ideas at a really high level. Over the years, if you really wanted to know the ‘best of’ what was going on with SOLIDWORKS products and our community overall, you’d hear it from Jeremy Regnerus and the rest of the team here via SOLIDWORKS LIVE!

After spending my first three years here creating and building the SOLIDWORKS Champions Program and SOLIDWORKS Influencer Program, the chance to shine a spotlight on so many of you for a whole host of new reasons was just too compelling to pass up. When it comes to 3DEXPERIENCE World, one of our biggest stages here when it comes to all things SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works, that rings true now more than ever.

That’s why, after a 25 hours-long adventure covering the sights and sounds of 3DEXPERIENCE World 2022, we celebrated a huge feat accomplished by 5 (actually, 6) of our community members. That accomplishment? The accomplishment of having a top 5 best-attended breakout session on the user agenda for the event.

During this episode, we had a chance to hear from each of the top 5 most attended session presenters directly. This year, 3DEXPERIENCE World featured over 200 sessions. Listed below are the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to session popularity.

1) A Complete Tour of Configurations by Jeff Niederman

After a quick recap of the overall event and a catch-up session with new SOLIDWORKS CEO Manish Kumar, we unveiled the first of five sessions featured during the episode. “A Complete Tour of Configurations” was the brainchild of Jeff Niederman.

During Jeff’s segment, we heard about his over 20 year career here at Dassault Systèmes. We also heard Jeff’s thoughts on why he felt this session resonated with attendees, how he aimed to divide up such a huge topic (configurations in under an hour – how?!), and how his personal and professional experiences played into the topic.

 

2) Maniacal Modeling Methods 2022 by Kam Smith

Kam has participated in Model Mania many, many times throughout his history as a SOLIDWORKS user, Champion, and User Group Leader. Kam shared many details of his history in the SOLIDWORKS community, told us what this session is really all about (read: not Kam modeling every part in Model Mania history all in one sitting!), and speculated on why this topic was so popular (even though, on its face, it’s ‘Model Mania’ focused).

This session, like so many popular World sessions, is truly a ‘tips and tricks’ session. The more you learn about the methods that the quickest modelers use, the better you can be as a designer. As we ended the session, we gave a plug to the forthcoming SLUGME7 (SOLIDWORKS Largest User Group Meeting Ever), which is looking for volunteers today!

 

3) 3DEXPERIENCE R&D Meetup by Mark Rushton and Sal Lama

We had over 30 meetup sessions at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2022. This session was the only one in the top 5 that: 1) was a meetup session, and 2) featured two presenters! During this segment, we spoke with Mark and Sal about questions users asked about 3DEXPERIENCE Works during the session. After all, meetups were created to connect speakers and attendees in more of a free-flowing, conversational format!

We also talked about the benefits Mark and Sal have, as long-tenured SOLIDWORKS R&D team members, when it comes to having them leading different aspects of R&D for the xApps (such as xDesign and xShape) on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

 

4) Aye, Aye, Matey: a Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Mating by Ryan Field

In terms of most popular sessions at 3DEXPERIENCE World, this one isn’t much of a surprise, is it? The presentation stands on its own as a super entertaining and informative one, but mates are so universal to the 3D CAD design experience!

During this segment on SOLIDWORKS LIVE, Ryan and I explore the conceit of his session on assembly mates. We explore the sessions themes, touching on breadcrumbs, advanced mates, the component preview window, review of customization options, the mate controller, and much more!

 

5) Top 20 SOLIDWORKS Settings You Need to Know! by Craig Lalumiere

Over 540 checkboxes. That’s how many Craig counted inside the SOLIDWORKS System Options. During this segment, Craig gives us some insights into his favorite/most useful options to know. We also discuss why his unique role at Applied CAD Solutions positions him to understand the magnitude of options selections, working with many SOLIDWORKS customers in different geographies and industries.
