Model Mania SOLIDWORKS Cloud Challenge is Back at the All-Virtual 3DEXPERIENCE World

Returning for its third year, the Model Mania® SOLIDWORKS Cloud Challenge is available for all 3DEXPERIENCE World attendees. Previously known as the 3DEXPERIENCE Challenge, the SOLIDWORKS Cloud Challenge puts the power of browser-based design apps in your hands to show off your design skills and have a chance to win some big prizes.

To help set you up for success, let me show you what this year’s SOLIDWORKS Cloud Challenge is all about, how you can participate, and some tips for bringing your entry to the next level for a better chance at winning.

This challenge is all about expressing your creativity and showing off your skills using the 3D Creator and 3D Sculptor design roles on the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Your tasks:

  1. Design a custom wheel with your own personal style

  2. Publish a high-quality image that shows off the design

Our panel of design experts will select the top three submissions for both users and partners based on originality, creativity, complexity, and presentation. Winners will be announced at  2:00 PM ET on February 9th, on SOLIDWORKS Live broadcasted from 3DEXPERIENCE World 2022.

Getting Started

If you would like to participate in this challenge, you must be a registered attendee of 3DEXPERIENCE World 2022 and at least 18 years of age. If you are not yet registered to attend 3DEXPERIENCE World, click here to sign up now.

To register for the challenge you must complete this web form to get access to the Model Mania dashboard and design apps. Important note: use the same email address you used to register for 3DEXPERIENCE World 2022. Once you complete the form, you will receive an email with a link to “Launch your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.” Click the link, and either register for your 3DEXPERIENCE ID or log in with your existing credentials, then go to this dashboard to start the challenge. If you are unable to access the dashboard or experience any difficulties getting started, comment on this post.

The Design

With the 3D Creator and 3D Sculptor roles, you will have access to xDesign and xShape apps. xDesign is perfect for creating the parametric features you’ll need, like revolving the outer rim, extruding the central hub, and adding the bolt holes. You can design the spokes in xDesign as well, but if you’re interested in subdivision (Sub-D) modeling try using xShape.

The Image

Before you post your final image, adjust some of the newly introduced view modes and visual quality settings as shown below. Additional instructions will be available in the Model Mania dashboard to help you out.

Submitting Your Entry

Once you have completed your design and modified the view and visual settings, post an image of it as an “Idea” post to the Model Mania 2022 Community. This is your entry to the challenge. Posting the idea from one of the design apps is easy. Go to the Tools tab of the action bar, and expand the Share button to Share as Picture.

Submit your image between 8:00 AM EST on Monday, February 7th, and 5:00 PM EST on Tuesday, February 8th to be considered for the prizes. You can only submit ONE image. Multiple entries will result in disqualification. If you need to resubmit your entry, you must delete your previous submissions. This can be done by navigating to your post in the community, clicking the caret in the top right corner of the post, and clicking “delete.” In addition to the top six winners, submissions that receive the highest number of likes will receive an honorable mention. Ready to win big? Sign up for the challenge now, and start designing!
