Attention Modeling Maniacs: Don’t Miss Model Mania at SOLIDWORKS World 2019
Back for its 20th year Model Mania® will once again be the place to be to prove you have the SOLIDWORKS modeling skills to top them all. For all those SOLIDWORKS World newbies out there, Model Mania is an annual design challenge that pits user against user and reseller against reseller in a battle of wits to see who can model and analyze a part the fastest.
Interested in participating? Here’s how it works: First, go the Model Mania booth in the back of the Partner Pavilion, where you are first given a 2D drawing of a part. Your goal is to create that part in SOLIDWORKS as quickly and as accurately as possible. Seems simple, right? Well the second “Phase” is when things get really interesting. For Phase 2, you are given a modified version of that drawing; you can consider it an engineering change if you like. Your goal now, similar to before, is to make the design change as quickly and as accurately as possible and run a simple simulation to determine the factor of safety.
At SOLIDWORKS World, all of the entries are judged on accuracy first, and time second, because in the real world, it doesn’t matter how fast you get something done if it’s not right. The top three users and resellers will receive prizes ($500, $300, and $200). Prizes are courtesy of this year’s Model Mania sponsor Lenovo.
This year’s Model Mania will take place in the back of the Partner Pavilion, which will be open during the following hours:
- Sunday, 5:30-7:30pm CT
- Monday 10:00am-4:30pm CT and 6:00 PM-8:00pm CT
- Tuesday 10:00am-4:30pm CT
- Wednesday 10:00-2:30pm CT
Winners and the solution to the Model Mania challenge will be announced Wednesday morning during the SOLIDWORKS 2020 Preview breakout session at 8:30-10:00am in Hall D (before general session begins at 10am).
