SWUGN Group Leader Spotlight: Tony Cantrell
“I feel like the SOLIDWORKS community is one of the best in the world.”
Tony Cantrell is the leader, and founder, of the Palmetto SOLIDWORKS User Group (PSWUG) in Columbia, South Carolina! After realizing that there wasn’t a user group nearby, Tony decided to start his own and has running it for 11 years now. “Since starting the group (and attending other groups and SOLIDWORKS World) I have learned the passion of the users that attend and their willingness to help anyone who asks.”
When Tony isn’t leading the PSWUG, he stays busy doing design work for various industries such as medical, military, nuclear, and consumer products. If he wasn’t in his current profession, what would he do? “Teaching SOLIDWORKS!”
If he has any free time, Tony enjoys spending time with his family; he has nine great-grandsons! Besides his family and SOLIDWORKS, he’s also passionate about golfing, salt water fishing, and Clemson football.
Even though Tony has been the PSWUG leader for over a decade, he can’t choose which meeting has been his favorite! “I feel they are all great. Anytime you can connect with friends and learn or share knowledge, it’s a great meeting.”
So why should you join a local SOLIDWORKS User Group? Tony says: “First answer, why not? Anyone wanting to use, learn, or get information on SOLIDWORKS should attend a user group meeting!”
Since 1996, SOLIDWORKS User Groups have been a valuable resource for SOLIDWORKS users all over the world. The SWUGN Committee and DS SOLIDWORKS provide ample support, but the real stars are the SOLIDWORKS User Group Leaders. Every week or so, we’ll spotlight one of our group leaders and the local user group chapter that they are responsible for leading.
