My SolidWorks World Sessions – Day 1, 2:45pm to 3:45pm

There's a decent chance that fruits, cookies, and sodas will be lining the hallways as everyone makes their way to the next set of technical sessions.  I'll grab some on my way to see one of these sessions.

SolidWorks and LEGOs – Tangible Methods That Really Stack Up
Adam Scheible, Portland Community College
Adam once stood in front of a room full of SolidWoks users and shouted "This is going to be a great day!".  He was talking about the SWUGN Summit – Seattle, and he was right.  Adam uses LEGOs in his class curriculum to teach students about configurations, shells and patterns, and top-down design concepts.  My only concern about this session is that I might be the oldest person in the room (by far).

Keyboard Shortcuts
Sal Lama, SolidWorks Corporation
Here's another hands-on session that is probably full by now, but it has to be on my list.  Sal is one of the best, and "Keyboard Shortcuts" moves beyind the "F" key (zoom to fit) and CTRL-S (save).  Sal exposes more than 100 default SolidWorks keyboard shortcuts in this session.

Design for Reuse – Tips and Tricks

I once introduced Jeff as "Kevin Sweeney" at a SWUGN Summit event, and I've been using it as a running joke ever since.  No matter what you call him, Kevin/Jeff is an outstanding presenter.  It was part of the session abstract that caught my eye here – "How can I work with imported files that are constantly changing but they are not in SolidWorks format?".  A long sentence to be sure, but the answer is bound to be clever.

Model Like a Maniac

Have you ever watched the video each year showing how the "Model Mania" part was created?  Do you always slap your forhead and say "Why didn't I think of that?"  Maybe if I attend this session I can put some of the commands to use.  Mark has been managing the "Model Mania" contest at SolidWorks World for 8 years now and I'm always impressed by the solution.

PhotoView 360 – Achieving Maximum Realism

What can I say?  If you want to best possible information when it comes to rendering models, sit in on any of Rob's PhotoWorks or PhotoView 360 sessions.  If you have any doubt about Rob's knowledge in this area, check out all of his presentations, tips and tricks, books, and images on his website.  Then go see one of his sessions live…you'll be glad you did.

Picking one session to attend in this time slot won't be easy, but that's the case in every time period at SolidWorks World.  The best and the brightest are always there – that's what makes the event so special.
