Mini Monster Trucks Meet Master Classes: Joel Buschmann Brings Overkill Racing to 3DEXPERIENCE World 2027

Joel Buschmann is bringing one of his mini-monster trucks to 3DEXPERIENCE World 2027 and will share how he uses SOLIDWORKS Design to build from concept to fully engineered, road-ready machine.

Mark your calendars: 3DEXPERIENCE World 2027 is heading to Nashville, TN, February 14–17, bringing together designers, engineers, and innovators from across the SOLIDWORKS community for four days of learning, networking, and hands-on discovery. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your CAD skills, get inspired by industry leaders, or connect with peers who obsess over great design as much as you do, this is the event to be at. Registration is now open, and this year’s lineup includes a guest who not only dreams up wild machines and models them in SOLIDWORKS Design but also has the skills to build them.

Meet Joel Buschmann, Owner of Overkill Racing and Chassis

Joel Buschmann’s path to custom vehicle fabrication started as a detour. While working toward a graduate degree in cellular and molecular biochemistry, he built a mini-monster truck from a 1968 Chevrolet Suburban, mounted on 54-inch tires, and brought it to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show at just 24 years old. That side project became Overkill Racing and Chassis, a shop known for turning ambitious one-off vehicle concepts into fully functional builds.

Buschmann’s creative process leans heavily on SOLIDWORKS Design. As his projects grew beyond simple welded tube structures into full vehicles with suspension, sheet metal, and moving parts, he needed software that could bring every system together in one place. As he put it, SOLIDWORKS Design enabled him to design sheet-metal parts, create moving components, add tube work, create fixturing jigs, and bring everything together into a single complete assembly.

The results speak for themselves: Overkill now models its builds to roughly 90% completion digitally before any metal is cut, catching fit and motion issues on the laptop rather than on the shop floor. You can read the full story of how Overkill Racing brings its wildest ideas to life on the SOLIDWORKS customer story page.

The Truck Is Coming to Nashville

At 3DEXPERIENCE World 2027, Joel will bring one of his mini-monster trucks on-site and give presentations on how he uses SOLIDWORKS Design to take a build from concept to a fully engineered, road-ready machine. It’s a rare chance to see how digital design translates into real, tangible (and seriously fun) hardware. You’ll hear the story straight from Joel, as someone who’s been pushing the boundaries of custom fabrication for over a decade.

Whether you’re into automotive design, custom fabrication, or just want to see a monster truck up close and talk to the guy who brought it to life, this is a session worth building your schedule around.

Don’t Miss It

3DEXPERIENCE World 2027 runs February 14–17 in Nashville, TN. Sessions like Joel’s (Keep both hands on the wheel with your design career: Mini Monster Trucks) tend to fill up quickly, so register now to lock in your spot and make sure you can add his presentation to your schedule. Come see Joel Buschmann’s monster truck (and the SOLIDWORKS workflow behind it) in person.
