href=\"https:\u002F\u002Fwww.solidworks.com\u002Fsw\u002Fproducts\u002F10141_ENU_HTML.htm?scid=sm_bl_DASIassemblies\" target=\"_self\">SolidWorks 2012\u003C\u002Fa> has several capabilities of both Hide and Suppress, and even a way to essentially capture the benefits from both.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hiding-parts-in-assemblies-0\">Hiding Parts in Assemblies\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Think of hidden components in a SolidWorks assembly as just that… NOT VISIBLE.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>From there, they are essentially exactly like a visible part.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Hidden parts still participate or are included in:\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\u003Cli>Collision Detection\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Mass Properties calculation\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Dynamic Assembly Motion\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>BOM’s\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Pack n Go\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Etc.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\u003Cp>In most situations, there are options to “Include” or “Ignore Hidden” in the event that you do not want to control whether they are included in the calculation. \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Hidden parts also take the stress off the video card since it does not have to display them.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>However, hidden parts are still loaded into memory, therefore their math data takes up part of the memory footprint.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"suppressing-parts-in-assemblies-1\">Suppressing Parts in Assemblies\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>Think of a suppressed part as a ‘deleted part that is very easy to UNDO’.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>When a part is suppressed, all dependencies associated with that part is also suppressed such as Mates, Assembly Features, and other referenced items.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The part is treated as if it doesn’t exist.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Suppressed parts do NOT:  \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\u003Cli>Affect Mass Properties calculations\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Show in BOM’s\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Participate in Collision Detection or other such calculations\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Etc.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\u003Cp>Suppressed parts will:  \u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\u003Cli>Show in a Pack n Go (Not Open)\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>List in FILE | FIND REFERENCES (Not Open)\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\u003Cp>If the suppressed part is UNSUPPRESSED, it will again solve like all other parts.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Ch2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-best-of-both-worlds-2\">The Best of Both Worlds\u003C\u002Fh2>\u003Cp>There is a little known menu selection that can give you the performance of having parts SUPPRESSED, when they are really only HIDDEN.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>When you HIDE components, follow that by right-clicking the ASSEMLBY NAME at the top of the Feature Manager and selecting “Unload Hidden Components.”\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>This will ‘flush’ the math footprint of the parts and give you better performance when you don’t want to see parts, but don’t want to suppress them either.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>This is great for toolbox parts where you need them for an accurate part count on the BOM, but don’t want the added strain on your video hardware.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>This menu item needs to be selected again if more parts are hidden.
