Ahmed Abdelnasser’s job may be top secret, but it’s no secret he’s passionate about design and SOLIDWORKS. Ahmed is on a mission to enable engineers worldwide to have access to the latest tools and learning opportunities.
Ahmed runs the Mansoura SOLIDWORKS User Group in Mansoura, Egypt and is the SOLIDWORKS User Group Network (SWUGN) committee leader for Africa and the Middle East and plans to continue growing the SOLIDWORKS user group network and empowering communities through workshops and events.
Ahmed grew up in Mansoura, Egypt, with his parents, both teachers, and his two sisters, one a teacher and the other a doctor. He studied mechanical engineering and mechatronics and received his Bachelor of Engineering at Mansoura University in Egypt and a Master of Engineering from the University of Naples Federico, and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration at the International Business Academy of Switzerland.
Ahmed started out studying electronics, but found it difficult and didn’t like programming. He found mechanical design most suitable, which stemmed from his curiosity about how things operated growing up.
“When my parents gave me a new game or something, I never played with it. I just tried to disassemble it and reassemble it and tried to fix things around me if they weren’t working properly.”
After discovering SOLIDWORKS during the pandemic, he took it upon himself to learn how to use it.
“For six months I did nothing but SOLIDWORKS,” said Ahmed. I woke up, had breakfast, and started to study SOLIDWORKS.” And it paid off as he earned all the SOLIDWORKS certifications, including the SOLIDWORKS Design Expert (CSWE).
His first SOLIDWORKS project was an award-winning robot designed to purify water, which later became a startup called Momentum Robotics. One of his favorite SOLIDWORKS projects was an automated guided vehicle (AGV) warehouse robot.
Today, the 27-year-old resides in Dubai and is a product manager focused on reverse engineering in the metrology solutions department at an organization he can’t name. He redesigns products that need to be converted or relocated, which consists of scanning a physical part to generate an STL file, then converting the file into CAD data using Geomagic Design X reverse engineering software, and then moving the CAD data into SOLIDWORKS to finalize all the edits and generate the drawing to prepare it for manufacturing.
The best part about his job, Ahmed said, is that the projects are always different and he gets to work with the latest technology for reverse engineering and 3D scanning, as well as SOLIDWORKS on a regular basis. He currently uses SOLIDWORKS Design 2026 and is also a fan of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. “I really like the concept and the ability to simulate heavy projects on the cloud,” said Ahmed. “It saves my life.”
“I also like the new AI tools and my new friends LEO and AURA,” he added. For those unfamiliar, LEO and AURA are the SOLIDWORKS AI virtual companions.
“But what I like most about SOLIDWORKS is the community and that the company focuses on the user and listens to our needs. SOLIDWORKS users have the biggest mechanical design community worldwide.”

He’s a big fan of science fiction movies, and he feels that they are becoming a reality in the world. His favorites are “I, Robot” and “WALL-E.”
His favorite YouTube channel is his own, CADfinity, and he also likes others like The Engineering Mindset.
His favorite food is Arabic, and he also likes Italian.
He loves traveling and has been to 10+ countries.
His motto is “Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.”
Sounds like Ahmed is living up to his motto, as he is also a SOLIDWORKS Champion and plans to continue as a user group leader and volunteer for the SOLIDWORKS community. “This is important for me, because I believe in equal opportunity. I want to provide these opportunities to everyone in the world,” said Ahmed. The SOLIDWORKS community is about sharing knowledge and learning from each other, and giving everyone more opportunities.”
