The last thing you want when issuing drawings to site is for parts of the drawing to be illegible!

Secondly, you are trying to build CAD Standards, If your CAD Standards are good, clear and easy to use, then people will follow them. As I’ve said in previous blogs, I can take a drawing done 10 years ago and know, just by looking at it, what layer any entity is on, just by its type and colour. For example, if that Valve was red, I know it is on the Hot Water Services layer, if it was Blue, it’s on the Cold Water Services and if it is Green, it’s on the Mains Water Services.

It’s simple things like this that can really speed up your time drafting within DraftSight.

I do the same thing with LineStyles, but we will cover that in another blog!

This month, take 10 percent off DraftSight Professional and Premium!

Learn more about DraftSight here.
","2020-06-25T09:00:16
"draftsight","DraftSight is a professional-grade 2D CAD product that allows you to access existing DWG files and create new ones at fraction of the cost of alternative CAD products.","DraftSight
https://blog-assets.solidworks.com/uploads/2025/12/draftsight-avatar.jpg-96x96.webp","Avatar","User","NodeWithAuthorToUserConnectionEdge
[44
"dGVybToxOTk2","Tutorials","tutorials","/mastering/tutorials/","Taxonomy_mastering",[51
false
"PostToTaxonomy_masteringConnectionEdge","PostToTaxonomy_masteringConnection
58,64
"dGVybTo5Njg0","CAD Standards in DraftSight","cad-standards-in-draftsight","/tags/cad-standards-in-draftsight/","Taxonomy_tag
"dGVybTo5NTk2","Tips and Tricks","tips-tricks","/tags/tips-tricks/","PostToTaxonomy_tagConnection
[72
"dGVybTo1NQ==","/products/draftsight/","Taxonomy_product","PostToTaxonomy_productConnectionEdge",[79
"PostToTaxonomy_productConnection
[83,97
"dGVybTo1OQ==","2D CAD","2d-cad","/disciplines/2d-cad/","dGVybTo1OA==
91
"/disciplines/design-engineering/2d-cad","cG9zdDozNzcz","Discipline","Taxonomy_disciplineToDisciplineConnection","Taxonomy_discipline
"Design and Engineering","design-engineering","/disciplines/design-engineering/",null
104,107
"Electrical","/disciplines/design-engineering
[109,112
"PostToTaxonomy_disciplineConnectionEdge
"PostToTaxonomy_disciplineConnection
"https://blog-contrib-prd.itvpc.solidworks.com/products/draftsight/cad-standards-bylayer-for-blocks/","CAD Standards – ByLayer for Blocks -
