Edits, revisions, and cleanup become necessary for almost every file. That’s where the updated Powertools Tab comes in handy. The Powertools Tab is a dedicated ribbon area designed to accelerate these edits by bringing powerful editing and manipulation tools in one easy-to-access location. Our recent Powertools Tab webinar, led by Kevin Land, demonstrates how these tools improve drafting efficiency by enabling common adjustments in DraftSight.

Text and Annotation

A large part of that work involves text. Notes need to be renumbered. Single-line text needs to be converted into MText. The case needs to be corrected, or the justification needs to change without shifting placement. These are routine edits that can be more efficient with the right tools.

Another useful tip is automatic text numbering. Instead of manually editing notes one by one, the numbering tool lets users quickly apply sequential values to selected text objects. This is especially helpful for callouts, revision notes, or inspection tags that need to stay organized across a drawing set.

Kevin also demonstrates tools for adjusting text case and justification without changing placement. In many drawings, changing text alignment manually can shift annotations out of position and create extra cleanup work. The Powertools tools allow those adjustments while keeping text anchored in place.

Masking can also be made easier. Single-line text can be given a background mask to improve readability over hatches or dense geometry, helping annotations stay legible without rebuilding surrounding objects.

Block Editing

The same pattern continues with blocks. Instead of opening and editing each block individually, Powertools can be used to replace them, scale multiple instances at once, extract attribute data, and pull nested elements directly from within a block. These are common adjustments, especially when working with shared or reused drawings.

Several Powertools tab tools are designed to simplify working with blocks in larger drawing files. One example is the ability to extract objects directly from nested blocks without opening the block editor. Instead of editing the entire block definition, users can copy individual elements for reuse or modification. For teams working with shared symbol libraries or consultant drawings, this can save significant time.

There are also tools for quickly replacing one block with another and scaling multiple blocks at once from their insertion points. These kinds of edits often appear during late-stage revisions when standards change or symbols need to be updated across an entire project.

The session also covers block reporting tools that can count block instances and export attribute data for documentation. While simple, these utilities can help speed up repetitive coordination tasks that are common in production drafting workflows.

File Cleanup with the Flatten Tool

File cleanup is another focus.
