This blog brings together STEM subjects at all levels for middle school, high school, technical/vocational and college levels.
The lessons reinforce classroom theory in the areas that students find most challenging such as the unit circle, force and stress, 3D geometry and material properties.
As we contribute to your students’ global future, we hope you utilize and participate in these lessons.
Last week I was fortunate to present on SolidWorks Sustainability at the American Society of Engineering Education - Engineering Design Graphics Division Mid Year Conference at Penn State Erie. SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress is a new, free, application that allows you to determine Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) on a part. So how do you teach green? How do you empower your students to learn how their decisions will impact the environment. From inputs, such as material selection, manufacturing process, where manufactured in the world, and where a product is used, SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress provides information on carbon footprint, energy consumed, air acidification and water eurtrophication. Once the student calculates the baseline, similar materials can be compared based on material properites such as density and tensile strength. Final LCA reports are delivered in Word format. My complete presentation, step-by-step example for the classroom and information to obtain SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress is below. You must have SolidWorks 2009 SP2 or greater. This Article I just wrote will be of interest to many I'm sure, because it talks about current events, science and all the other disciplines that were needed to help bring about WORLD PEACE back in the COLD WAR Days. So when a student asks what good can science, math, engineering and technology do for me or the world, well you might want to relay this story to them. Richard Williams.
