Another great SWUGN Summit event in Toronto this week. The attendees had plenty of good things to say about the event and the presenters, the facility and the food were top-notch, and we were able to identify a new presenter for SolidWorks World 2013 (get that abstract done Richard). As I left the Mississauga Convention center, there were still reseller reps chatting with customers, user group leader talking with their members, and attendees still asking questions of the presenters.
If there was anything disappointing about the event, it was the fact that SWUGN Rep and local group leader Chris White was unable to attend. Some really big projects at work have Chris very busy these days, and he just couldn't get away. I would like to thank him for all of the hard work he did ahead of time to make the event a success.
And here's a side story for you. As I've written before, over the past couple of years I have been eating "local" as much as possible when I travel. Deep dish pizza in Chicago, clam chowder in Boston, beef on weck in Buffalo, etc. I did some research ahead of time, but could not find out what would be considered "local" food in Toronto. On Monday evening, I decided to try a highly recommended Chinese Buffet restaurant with a massive sushi bar. As the hostess led me to my table, she asked if it was my first time there. I said yes, so she proceeded to point out different areas of the buffet - sushi here, salads there, and hot dishes on the back wall. She then said "and down there (pointing) is the Canadian food".
Now I was excited...so I asked her "What's Canadian food?". She said "You know, things like pizza, chicken, french fries....
I just smiled.
Funny, Canadian food sounds a bit like American fast food. :) I was exposed to Canadian Slice pizza on my Dec visit.
