Lenny's Got a Blog

Longtime SolidWorks user, fan, advocate, and friend Lenny Kikstra has finally found some free time to create his own blog.   Lenny has been hosting a SolidWorks related website for as long as I can remember, and Lenny's SolidWorks Resources (better know as LennyWorks) helps SolidWorks Users on a daily basis with tips, tricks, and API examples galor.

Add Lenny's Blog to your list of everyday "must reads".

Meet the Press - Literally

Ralph Grabowski mentioned some time ago that there would be 100+ journalists at SolidWorks World.  Just to set the record straight, Ralph and 127 other members of the press will be in New Orleans.  Included in that total are two of my favorites - Jeff Rowe of MCADCafe fame, and Rachael Dalton-Taggart of Cyon Research.  On my list of people to meet - Roopinder Tara of TenLinks and Randall Newton of AECNews.

I'm most excited about the SolidWorks bloggers that will be there.  The journalists will give you the news, the bloggers will give you the story.  The bloggers will be in the trenches - reporting on technical sessions, what other users are saying, the annual SWUGN meeting, and more.

The best way to follow all of the bloggers at SolidWorks World is to set up an Ajax page using Google, Yahoo, or Netvibes (my choice).  Then you can read their entries each day.

User Group Leaders at SolidWorks World

There are 50 user group leaders from around the world attending SolidWorks World 2007.  Catch all of them at the 8th Annual SWUGN Summit meeting, or stop by the SWUGN booth in the exhibit area and meet some of these dedicated group leaders.

Meet Ed at SolidWorks World

Ed Eaton shares some of the revelations he's had over the years in his SolidWorks World Podcast, and talks about this year's Curvy Stuff 6 session and how it changes from year-to-year.

Ed also mentions that he has a mental list of nearly 50 people to catch up with from previous SolidWorks World conferences. Hah!  I'll bet it's more like 250, and there are another 250 waiting to meet him.

Better bring a lot of business cards Ed.

Why is This Man Smiling?

Matthew_cummins_1 The latest in the series of SolidWorks World Podcast's features Matthew Cummins of B & N Industries.  I first met Matthew in April of last year at the SWUGN Summit - San Jose.  I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him at the De Anza College SolidWorks event a few months later.  Matthew's presentations were very well received - it was a slam-dunk to ask him to present at SolidWorks World in New Orleans.

Check out Matthews podcast for a preview of his session.  And that big smile you see in his picture?  I've never seen him without it.  Look for more great things from Matthew in the future.

Matt's On The Road Again

Matt Lombard's taking a little detour on his way to SolidWorks World in New Orleans.

January 31st - North Alabama SolidWorks User Group

February 1st - SolidWorks User Group of Birmingham

After all the meetings he visited last year, I have to wonder how many miles he has on his vehicle.

Look In The Bag

At every conference you attend, registration ends with someone handing over a bag of "goodies" full of CDs, flyers, yo-yos, and pens.  SolidWorks World is no different.

This year one of our SolidWorks Partners has come up with something unique for everyone, but extra special for user group members.  I'll leave you in suspense, but definitely...

Be Prepared, Be Very Prepared

Gerald Davis makes no bones about it in his SolidWorks World podcast.  If you're not serious about manufacturing, don't show up at his "What Sheet Metal Manufacturers Wish You Knew" presentation at SolidWorks World.

All seriousness aside, Gerald is extremely knowledgeable in the sheet metal area, and a great speaker.  I'd show up anyway.

Hey, Do you Know...?

I attended the North Texas SolidWorks User Group's meeting last Thursday in Fort Worth.  It was a great meeting - we had a lot of fun with some SolidWorks trivia, and saw wonderful presentation by the folks from Quadrispace.  We spent more than an hour at the end of the meeting doing a Q & A session until someone finally said it was getting late and we should all go home.

The best part though was before the meeting when one of the group members, Shawn McFall, walked up to me and asked "So, do you know Ricky Jordan?"  Seems Shawn and Ricky worked together some years ago.  This happens to me a lot and is a constant reminder of the power of the SolidWorks Community.
