Re-imagine the Future of Prosthetics at the 3DEXPERIENCE for Good Hackathon

Take part in 3DEXPERIENCE For Good activities at 3DEXPERIENCE World: Let’s break down all the activities being held in the brand-new 3DEXPERIENCE For Good area, which will be located inside the 3DEXPERIENCE Playground (formerly the Partner Pavilion):

Day one: Be part of an initiative to arm tens of thousands of amputees with next-generation prosthetic hands at the 3DEXPERIENCE for Good Hackathon.

This year at 3DEXPERIENCE World we are giving our community the opportunity to help to re-imagine the next massively distributable, low-cost prosthetic hand as part of the inaugural 3DEXPERIENCE For Good Hackathon.

There are over 12 million humans affected by forearm amputations all over the world. Over the past 15 years, the Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation has delivered 50,000 low-cost, light, durable, functional prosthetic hands based on a pre-CAD design.

We are inviting our users to invent what the next chapter of this story looks like, incorporating modern design tools—along with some innovative, out-of-the-box thinking—to improve the design and manufacturability of the prosthetic hand while satisfying a variety of constraints. The challenge is to come up with proposals that can sustain 1 Million+ hand donations to the most remote corners of the globe.

At 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020, we are humbled to be able to change the world directly for those that need it most. We will be forming five teams of five people representing fresh minds, strong mechanical engineering disciplines, and creative industrial design approaches while we provide 3DEXPERIENCE experts to come up with the best proposals.

Though the actual 3DEXPERIENCE For Good Hackathon teams will already have been selected prior to the event, 3DEXPERIENCE World attendees will have the opportunity to get involved in a dedicated area within the 3DEXPERIENCE Playground.

Hackathon teams will finalize their work on their respective proposals and present their work to the panel of judges live. Selections will be announced on the final day during the general session. As an attendee, you’ll be able to vote on the best candidate and witness the magic of a hackathon first-hand.

Day two: You will have the opportunity to get hands on and assemble current generation LN-4 prosthetic hands, which will then be donated to people in need around the world.

Day three: Take part in the first-ever Every Kid Gets a Robot (EKGAR) Workshop, in which you will work in groups to assemble a robot. Courtesy of Danielle Boyer’s EKGAR program, the robots assembled will be donated to further STEM education in the local community Learn more about Danielle’s program in this Born to Design Podcast.
