Surf’s Up, Engineers!

Have you ever dreamed of taking a longboard and walking to the water’s edge, as waves crash against your feet, gazing out watching the swells gather and other surfers paddle to catch the perfect wave, wishing you could do that too? Maybe, like me, the dream was much better than the reality. Make no mistake, I’m not a klutz by nature, but standing up on that surfboard lasted all of two seconds while I took in a mouthful of salt water, realizing I was no closer to actually catching that perfect wave than I was while standing at the water’s edge, wishing I could.

Now, let’s fast forward to today, when engineers, like those at Gilo Industries, are reinventing the way we surf and taking it to an all-new level. You no longer have to stand at the water’s edge wishing for that perfect wave. You don’t even need waves. You just need a body of water, which would allow you to go up to 30 mph on a jetboard, hold on and let the jetboard do all the work.

Win a Mako Jetboard!

In partnership with Gilo Industries, SOLIDWORKS is giving all engineers and designers, 18 years and older an opportunity for a chance to win a Mako jetboard. What’s the catch? It’s pretty simple. All you need to do is design the jetboard’s hard-shell carrying case using SOLIDWORKS (version 2015 or older) and submit your design by December 15th, 2017. For full details on the design contest, including prizes, the design brief and videos, visit the design contest website. Good luck!
