Five Questions Friday with Yves Thizy of Logopress

Logopress_Yves_Thizy Name: Yves Thizy

Company: Logopress. For over 20 years Logopress' only business has been the development of die design software for the Tool & Die Industry as well as Flattening and Blank prediction software for many kinds of parts. Logopress3™ is currently used in over 30 countries around the world.

1. Why did you choose to do the work you do?
In the late 80’s when finishing my engineering degree in Micro-Mechanical and Computer Science, my research project was entirely dedicated to CAD software. I was very interested in this area which was very new at the time, and I wanted to further investigate the processes. Working part time, I was also in charge of the implementation of the new CAD tools inside the design department of a medium mechanical company. So, after getting my engineering degree, in a region where there were many companies dedicated to the Tool & Die Industry for the Automotive market, and expectation for new CAD software dedicated to this industry was very high, I obviously decided, with some experts in this trade, to found the Logopress company to provide the Tool & Die industry with the CAD software they needed.

2. What is your proudest career moment?
This is a very difficult question. You know, the permanent goal is to go ahead with new challenges and you are always proud of the last one you just reached. Things go so fast today that it’s always better to look at the next challenge and stage than looking back at the previous success. Without thinking much about this question, two moments spontaneously come to mind. The first one is related to the end of the first fiscal year of the Logopress company in 1990, when we were able to celebrate our first profits after only one year – this was quite incredible and unexpected. The second one is not focused on an specific point of time but related to the fact that many users all over the world very much appreciate using our products on a daily basis.

3. What goal inspires you most?
Customer satisfaction is without a doubt the first goal and the motto of our company!

4. How has your partnership with SolidWorks made a difference in your business?
Because all of the Logopress3 products are SolidWorks Gold Certified, many SolidWorks resellers spontaneously promote our solutions when a die designer is looking for a CAD package or when a user needs to flatten any kind of complex 3D parts. Given that SolidWorks is a leading 3D CAD software worldwide makes the promotion of our add-in much easier and natural.

The other main point I would like to mention is the fact that the SolidWorks reseller channel is very large and stable; this is very important in order for us to build a strong relationship with  them and our users.

5. Where’s the best place you’ve traveled?
I have had the chance to travel and discover many different places in the world. Two places in particular because they still show beautiful nature almost without any human interactions are the Grand Canyon in Arizona and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. These are two places which absolutely takes your breath away!
